It is well…

We all know people that seem to have it all and still aren’t satisfied. They keep searching for the next best thing, job, vacation or person to give them a deep contentment, a peace they don’t currently have.  While they may have everything according to worldly standards, they lack what eludes them-soul wellness.

Wellness is born in our soul.  How can we have strength in crises, hope for a better day, and calm in the storms of life?  Soul wellness.  To be well in your soul is to have a deep “knowing”, a sense of peace that your soul is secure.  My soul is secure in the saving grace of Jesus.  No matter what comes my way, I am well because my soul is well.

I know people with cancer, debilitating illnesses, in stressful life situations or even dying-but are well.  It is well in their soul.  They are walking or struggling through, but nonetheless well because wellness abides in their soul.soul wellness trees

My soul wellness is about trusting in what God tells me, Jesus did for me and the Holy Spirit guides me to each day.  When I trust in Him I can live through anything, smile in the face of adversity and have a peace that goes beyond circumstances or normal comprehension.

The apostle Paul knew about soul wellness, he writes about it in Philippians 4:7:

And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Soul wellness starts with seeking God first. With my eyes fixed on Him, the path becomes clear. When I begin to think too much about myself, my worries or concerns, my soul wellness wanes and I lose the peace God wants for me.

Anxiety and worry does not come from God.  If I’m feeling anxious or worried, I need to redirect off of me and back onto Jesus.  Only He can give me  perfect peace, the soul wellness I desire.

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. Psalm 46:1

I’ve found soul wellness in the Savior of the world.  I nurture it by staying connected to Him and keeping my focus on Him.  I can travel down any twisted road in life, by trusting with whom I am traveling.

As God told Jeremiah in chapter 32:27:

“I am the Lord, the God of all the peoples of the world. Is anything too hard for me?”

I need to just focus, and as God told the psalmist in Psalm 46:10:

“Be still, and know that I am God!”

Seeking God first and being well in my soul centers and helps me prioritize my life. The peace that flows from soul wellness is all I need and more than anything this world can provide.
