The Password is Jesus

What’s the WiFi password? It’s often a teen’s first question upon entering a new or unfamiliar space. They want connection for access to social media, the internet, or even their homework. (Ok, not so much on the last one…) Being connected is vital to them. It should be for all of us.

In a world where everything is wireless, life feels free. However, as any teen understands, connection to a power source is imperative for the wireless link to function. If any part of the circuit is lost, so is optimal functioning. Anyone who has ever experienced slow or interrupted internet can attest to that frustration.

The same is true with our lives as Christians. God understood this and created Himself as our power source. He gave us the password to connect to Him. It’s Jesus. Through His redeeming work on the cross, we have eternal access to God for all we need in this life and the next.

Jesus explained it well:

Jesus told him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me. ~John 14:6

Yes, I am the vine; you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing. ~John 15:5

The obvious question then is, are we connected?

Jesus has set us free from sin, but He’s also our vital link to God and the life we were created to live. As sinful humans, we may desire to be free from God. But that’s not true freedom. Disconnected from God, we are slaves to sin. But with our Jesus connection, we truly receive all we need:

• Love
• Grace
• Peace
• Power
• Strength
• Joy
• Productivity
• Best of all, our truest freedom-eternal salvation.

When we realize the password to true freedom is Jesus, our lives are reborn. We don’t need to worry about bumpy interruptions because we have a direct path to God. It’s not necessary to fret about what’s next, why something happens, or if we’re doing any of this well. All we need to do is stay connected.

The Bible tells us how to live, pray, and be productive. In it, Jesus reminds us of His peace and love and provides the perfect example for us. God graciously provides the password of Jesus to keep us connected for all of eternity. But remaining connected isn’t always easy.

Storms and distractions of life threaten to pull us away. Our lives can be more difficult. Events or our human feelings can cause a sluggish connection. But remaining in Jesus, as He puts it, is the path God desires for us. He is the only path to eternal salvation.

Yet, still God gives us a choice.

How and even if we stay connected to God through Jesus is completely up to us. God gave us free will to choose Him or not. Being free from Him may seem easier, but Jesus reminds us that apart from Him, we can do nothing. Just like any device, we need to connect to our power source to function well and live our best life.

We are free to make the choice to connect. Have you’ve seen that commercial about plugging in devices because they’re dying? It reminds me of how we are all dying. But we don’t need to. Instead, let’s choose to plug in and receive power to live in freedom both now and eternally.

Just remember, the password is Jesus.
