What does it mean to be a Follower of Jesus? We began this exploration last month with our Bible study on Following. We continue it this month with a more in depth look into some of the elements discussed in our Follower Lenten series. Let’s dig into those elements here (faith, obey, love and listen) to better understand how to be His follower. See the full Bible study link at the end of this post.
Faith-Without faith, we wouldn’t follow and to follow we need a strong faith. Our faith is a gift from God, but we need to continually nurture it. We seek without seeing and know His presence in the unknown. This is the faith which allows us to be His follower.
No one likes to obey but as Moses reminded the children of Israel, it is the key to our lives. When we obey, God makes His home in us, loves us and reveals Himself to us. There is no better way to follow than to obey! As we do, He reveals Himself to us and leads us on the path for our lives.
To love God is much easier than to obey God in many circumstances. But loving God includes obedience to love in soul, mind and body. This is accomplished when we love God and then reflect His love to all those around us. The apostle Paul reminds us as we trust in Him, our roots grow down into God’s love and we are made complete.
Lastly, we need to keep an open mind, ear, and heart to listen to all God is saying. Listening involves hearing and heeding God’s directives from the Bible but also how He speaks in our lives. When we listen with all our senses, He directs the path of our lives as we follow.
In faith we follow, obey, love and listen. Take a few moments and dive into this Bible study. I pray it will strengthen your walk as His Follower. FBS March 2016 Follower-Faith, Obey, Love & Listen
